SUMMARY:

Coastal erosion and flooding are processes that directly affect cities with seafronts with infrastructure within reach of the forces of oceanic dynamics, responsible for causing a series of significant damages in the economic, social and environmental spheres. Some impacts can be cited such as the loss of land and coastal infrastructure, the loss of habitats and biodiversity, impacts on the economy and tourism and risks to safety and health. The study area of this research is Barra de Maxaranguape, located on the eastern coast of Rio Grande do Norte – RN, and is a city that stands out for tourism and the development of economic activities on the coast. However, due to the development of the region and population migration to the coastal area without prior planning, the safety of the coastal community has been compromised and the situation is expected to worsen over the years. Therefore, the objective of this study is to diagnose the region using geoprocessing tools and numerical modeling of coastal vulnerability in future scenarios to serve as a reference in decision-making for mitigation and implementation of preventive measures against damage caused by the process. erosion and flooding.
