SUMMARY:

This study focuses on the ideal mix of constituents (cement, calcinated clay, limestone, and gypsum) of LC³ (Limestone Calcinated Clay Cement) for oilwell cementing pastes based on the response surface method (RSM). Slurries with a density of 14.2 lb/gal (1.66 g/cm³) were prepared for the first cementing phase, and their consistency, rheology at 27 °C and 52 °C, and thickening time were investigated. Compressive strength, permeability, and ultrasound resistance were measured on the hardened pastes after 8 hours, 24 hours, and 7 days. The evolution of the hydrated phases over time was also studied using X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, and scanning electron microscopy.
