SUMMARY:

The region of Seridó Potiguar is of great importance for the state of Rio Grande do Norte and even for the entire Northeast. With a highly diversified economy, the referred region has been facing serious problems related to desertification and water scarcity, mainly due to the way the land is used. Currently, desertification is a concern for many countries, including Brazil. In the Brazilian territory, the Northeast region inspires care, as the climate and the current speed and extent of deforestation favor this process. Taking into account this context, this research aims to investigate the morphodynamic processes in the desertification nucleus of Seridó Potiguar, from the rescue of the history of land use and land cover and its relationship with geomorphological dynamics, in addition to analyzing the historical process -economic and its influence on socio-spatial dynamics. For analysis of land use and land cover, the process of satellite image vectorization by visual interpretation was applied, which will later be compared with the mapping of information from the past, in order to identify changes that occurred in this period.
