In this study, time series of pluviometric precipitation in the municipality of Caicó were used, as well as the historical series of sunspots, to analyze and understand if there is any relationship between these two variables. The analyzed period was from 1913 to 2019 for both variables. Precipitation data were obtained from the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of Rio Grande do Norte (EMATER) and the Seridó Climatological Station (CP). The solar activity data were obtained from the Observatoire Royal de Belgique, (ORB). Descriptive statistical analysis, through measures of central tendency and dispersion, probability, return time, accumulated deviation are made and the Mann-Kendall non-parametric statistical test were also used, in addition to the Pearson's correlation analysis. The results showed high amplitude in both precipitation and solar activity. The average, maximum and minimum values are quite discrepant between precipitation and sunspots, but it was possible to perceive a relationship compatible to the period in which these extreme values occurred (maximum and minimum solar x dry and rainy periods), indicating that there is some relationship influence of sunspots on precipitation in Caicó.
