SUMMARY:

It is clear that every individual or social group is always looking for improvements in quality and standard of living, however, this refers to a very broad definition ranging from the individual's perception of feeling good, to measurements of comparable physical and socio-cultural parameters. In this sense, a given population or individual to obtain these parameters in turn depends on another range of variables, such as basic sanitation, which has a direct influence on the quality and standard of living of a given population. In addition, the absence of these services and / or mismanagement can cause both financial and human losses, thus becoming a worldwide concern and the theme of several public policies, however, the problems of this theme are soon found in the formulation and / or development of these policies, that is, the lack of primary and partial data that can subsidize the achievement of goals, objectives and how progress is made in the effectiveness of such public policies. In this way, this research has as main problem to supply the lack of information (to collect data on basic sanitation, to analyze, and to discuss its spatial distribution) so that the governors can become aware of the situation of their administrative units and improve their territorial ordering. Thus, in view of the aforementioned problem, the present research has as main objective to diagnose the basic sanitation operational systems and analyze their spatial distribution through a GIS platform in the municipality of São Fernando-RN, thus subsidizing the territorial ordering of this administrative unit . To achieve this objective, a GIS - Geographic Information System platform was used, feeding it with primary and secondary data collected with a RPA - Remotely-Piloted Aircraft and collection of testimonies regarding the four pillars of basic sanitation (water supply, sanitary sewage, solid waste collection, and urban storm water management) through the Inductive method, from the perspective of health geography over geopolitical territory. With this it was possible to survey, systematize, analyze and describe the sanitary sewage system of the entire municipality (rural and urban areas) and it is intended to apply the same set of techniques, methodological procedures and method for the development of the other three pillars of sanitation . In this perspective, the preliminary results achieved are proving satisfactory as they have already been used for the preparation of the Municipal Basic Sanitation Plan - MBSP of São Fernando.
