Cultural Mediation: The Role of Information as a Strategy for Connection and Dialogue in Contemporary Society

The increasing changes and restructuring experienced by museums, cultural centers, and educational services since the second half of the 20th century have significantly impacted their social, educational, and representative roles in today's society. These transformations have altered how these institutions are perceived by the public and have led to a closer alignment of their work with the community and the territory. This is achieved through the dissemination of cultural information and the implementation of cultural mediation strategies, which aim to create inclusive, participatory, dynamic, and reflective dialogue spaces. In this sense, this dissertation aims to expand the access of the university community to the art and culture initiatives of Galeria Conviv’Art. To do so, it seeks to characterize Galeria Conviv’Art, indicating its historical elements and organization, as well as identifying the main factors contributing to the low attendance of university students in the gallery. Additionally, it aims to develop an intervention proposal that encourages the participation of university students in the Visual Arts exhibitions of Galeria Conviv’Art. The methodological approach involves empirical research, including the observation of cultural mediation as a means to attract university students and conducting five interviews with cultural mediators from the educational service in question. Through the analysis of this case study, we understand that dialogue spaces are created through cultural mediation strategies, resulting in a more meaningful experience for the audience, which in turn enhances knowledge construction and the learning process.
