Competence in Information. Informational Behavior. Information Search Process. Model - ISP. Information sources.
In the school environment, competence in information is related to learning throughout life, while informational behavior can be seen as the ability to know how to seek the information necessary for the development of the individual. In view of this proposition, the general objective of this research is to diagnose the competence and the informational behavior of the students, of the technical courses of the Agricultural School of Jundiaí - EAJ. To achieve this, a theoretical contribution was developed from researchers and theorists about information competence and informational behavior, presenting an overview; the necessary skills for the use of information sources were described, as well as the obstacles observed by individuals in the activities of access to information and construction of knowledge; the Kuhlthau Information Search Process - ISP model was used, which is characterized by analyzing users' behavior in the emotional, cognitive and physical fields, from six stages: initiation, selection, exploration, formulation, collection and presentation. As for the methodology, it is an exploratory and descriptive research, with a qualitative and quantitative approach, of an applied nature through a case study with the application of a questionnaire to teachers, which served as a subsidy for the construction of the questionnaire applied to students, subjects of this research, constituted of students of the technical courses of EAJ. Regarding the information collected, we used the technique of descriptive statistics with the use of percentages. As a result, it was observed that those surveyed in a partial way had characteristics inherent to information competence, and this was detected from issues related to skills in the use of sources, access, evaluation and use of information, which were proven through the characteristics observed in the Development of Information Skills - DHI which are part of the standard developed by the International Federation Library Association - IFLA. In view of the result obtained, an intervention proposal was developed with a view to developing actions that contribute to the development of skills in accessing, evaluating and using information in a critical and effective way.
