AND VALIDATION OF AN INSTRUMENT FOR ASSESSING THE STAGING AND MANAGEMENT OF PRESSURE INJURIES IN HOSPITALIZED ELDERLY PATIENTS
Pressure Ulcer; Elderly; Validation Studies; Patient Safety; Quality Management.
Introduction: Aging is associated with increased comorbidities, physical, psychological, and social limitations, leading to a higher risk of pressure ulcers (PU) in the elderly, increasing treatment costs and length of hospital stay. In this context, nurses face significant challenges in ensuring comprehensive care for the elderly, especially given the scarcity of resources and professionals. The occurrence of PU is related to care and structural factors, and is considered an avoidable adverse event. Its incidence is an indicator of the quality of healthcare. Lack of knowledge on the part of nurses can increase the risk of complications and death, reinforcing the importance of continuous training. The use of validated instruments promotes standardized assessments and greater safety in the care provided. Objective: To construct and validate an instrument for assessing the staging and management of PU in hospitalized elderly patients. Methodology: This is a methodological study for the construction and validation of an instrument for assessing the staging and management of PU to be used by nurses in the adult ICU and medical clinic units of a university hospital. This will be carried out in three phases: 1st - bibliographic survey and content production; 2nd - instrument construction; 3rd - content and appearance validation. Final considerations: It is expected that this study will contribute to the improvement of the assessment process for staging and managing pressure ulcers in the adult ICU and medical clinic, as well as providing updated scientific evidence on the research topic, contributing to the improvement of the team, the quality of care, and patient safety.
