SUMMARY:

This study presents the implementation and evaluation of a quality improvement cycle focused on the prevention of pressure injuries (PI) in a unit providing care to patients with ischemic stroke (IS) at the General Hospital of Fortaleza (HGF), Ceará State. These patients frequently present risk factors such as immobility, incontinence, cognitive impairment, and altered tissue perfusion, making it important to adopt best practices related to preventive measures and a standardized protocol, essential for systematizing preventive care and reducing the incidence of these injuries. The study aimed to: Develop an improvement cycle for adherence to best practices in pressure injury prevention; characterize the service regarding the profile of patients served; train the multidisciplinary team; and manage a PI prevention protocol for the service. Method: Quasi-experimental, convenience, and concurrent, before-and-after study using an internal program and cross-evaluation, with 180 observations before implementation in hospitalized patients (April and September 2025) and 180 observations after implementation of pressure injury prevention interventions (January 2026 to June 2026). The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Onofre Lopes Hospital (HUOL), according to opinion no. 8.078.831/2025. Expected results: Greater sensitivity in the early identification of risk, strengthening of the patient safety culture, increasing adherence to best practices, promoting the improvement of process indicators, as well as reducing the incidence and prevalence of pressure injuries.
