SUMMARY:

The desire to have a child is present in the aspirations of most adult individuals. However, not every couple is able to achieve pregnancy spontaneously, and some require assisted human reproduction (AHR) treatments. Among the causes related to female infertility are several factors that interfere with ovulation, such as stress, obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, and hormonal and metabolic disorders. In this context, the aim of this study was to investigate the causes of female infertility commonly associated with anovulation and the impact of these associations on pregnancy rates in AHR treatments. To this end, a descriptive, longitudinal, retrospective observational study was conducted through the collection of secondary data at the Assisted Reproduction Center of the Januário Cicco Maternity School (CRA/MEJC, Natal–RN), where medical records of patients treated between 2013 and 2024 were analyzed. With authorization from the UFRN Research Ethics Committee, of the 637 patients treated during this period, it was possible to obtain contact information for 232. Of these, 189 consented to access their medical records by signing an informed consent form. Body Mass Index (BMI) proved to be one of the most relevant infertility factors. In this study, 29.51% of patients were classified as eutrophic, while 65.57% were overweight. Only two patients were underweight and four had grade I obesity. Overweight was associated with a significant reduction in the number of oocytes with two pronuclei, negatively affected their cleavage, and increased the number of immature and fragmented embryos. The presence of anatomical factors, associated or not with advanced age and endometriosis, also stood out as a relevant infertility factor among the sampled patients. The results of this study, although preliminary, demonstrate an important impact of both lifestyle and biological factors on the occurrence of oocyte and embryonic alterations, as well as their association with gestational success.
