OPTIMAL ALLOCATION OF BATTERIES IN THE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM USING THE BPSO METHOD TO REDUCE TECHNICAL LOSSES
: BESS. Optimization. Loss reduction. OpenDSS. BPSO.
This work proposes a methodology for the optimal allocation of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in electric distribution systems, aiming to minimize technical losses. The approach uses the Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) metaheuristic technique, integrated with the OpenDSS software via Python interface, considering quasi-static time series (QSTS). Simulations are performed on three different systems: IEEE 13-bus, IEEE 123-bus, and a real feeder with 12,912 buses. The results demonstrate the method's effectiveness in loss reduction. Although the initial investment is still high, the technical benefits justify its use in combination with other economic analysis strategies to support decision-making.
