SUMMARY:

Introduction: Falls constitute one of the most frequent adverse events in the hospital context and cause severe harm to patients, in addition to compromising the quality of care. To address this problem, nurses utilize the Morse Fall Scale, a validated instrument that stratifies risk and supports the implementation of preventive measures. However, the knowledge gap and the difficulties in the practical execution of this tool limit the effectiveness of safety strategies and jeopardize the integrity of the provided care. Given this scenario, education on the subject represents an essential strategy, a context in which the serious game emerges as a technological health-teaching tool for educational purposes, rather than mere entertainment, offering a safe virtual environment for the development of practical skills in applying the Morse Fall Scale and fall prevention strategies. Objectives: To develop the Game Design Document and a prototype of the main interfaces of the serious game "Caindo na Prevenção" [Falling into Prevention]. Method: This is a methodological study based on the instructional design methodological framework, which focused on the development of an educational technology from the learning needs of 33 preceptor nurses and nursing residents from the Onofre Lopes University Hospital who participated in the research. The study was structured into two interdependent stages. The first consisted of a situational diagnosis, which identified the main knowledge gaps and practical difficulties of the nursing team regarding fall prevention. The second stage used these data and the institutional protocol to elaborate the Game Design Document, in which the mechanics and pedagogical elements of the serious game were defined, as well as a visual prototype where screen interfaces were created using the Gemini AI (Google). Results: The sum of the percentages of participants who had never participated in fall prevention training (27.3%) and those who had participated in only one (33.3%) reveals that 60.6% of the sample has minimal or no participation in the topic. This datum demonstrates a critical point and suggests a gap in the continuous training of professionals. Among the two educational products of the research, the Game Design Document incorporates mechanics elements, such as scoring systems, ranking, and immediate feedback, and utilizes a pixel art aesthetic, which ensures a user-friendly reception and a reduction in technological resistance, enhancing engagement and fluidity across devices. The structuring of the document addressed the real needs of care practice and regulatory documents, which will contribute to ensuring clinical applicability and relevance in the hospital context. In addition to this product, a prototype of the game interfaces was created, presenting the main screens to enable a better understanding and vision of the project. Conclusions: The study demonstrates that the Game Design Document functions as an indispensable methodological foundation for the creation of the serious game, consolidating it as an essential tool in digital game development. This document systematically gathers technical, aesthetic, and functional requirements, ensuring pedagogical fidelity and minimizing interpretation failures by the development team. The Game Design Document, together with the interface prototype, acts as the methodological foundation of the development, aligning the project vision with learning needs and ensuring that the final product precisely responds to the real demands of care practice.
