The objective of this work is to understand the relationship between planning and the practice of music teaching in youth and adult education (EJA) in the municipality of Natal (RN). To develop this study, a case study approach was adopted, employing methodological triangulation, composed of document analysis, field observation, and a semi-structured interview with the teacher responsible for music education in EJA at a school in this municipality. Through the information produced, the relationship between planning and the teacher's practice was analyzed, based on the construction of three scenes, which generated six categories focused on classroom management and learning management. The results point to the specificity of this teaching modality, in which the articulation between planning and practice sometimes coincides and sometimes contradicts each other. In music education in EJA, classroom experience reshapes planning according to the context, so that music can be seen as a central instrument in literacy. Through musical appreciation, recording, criticism, and collectively produced artistic experience, student interest and participation in this teaching modality can be increased.
