PRELUDIO OF THE BRAZILIAN SUITE FOR CELLO SOLO BY DIMITRI CERVO: A musical journey through the work of Tanya Carey
Cello, music pedagogy, Tanya Carey, Suzuki Method, Dimitri Cervo, Brazilian music, musical
interpretation, string instrument teaching.
This master's research investigates the applicability of Tanya Carey's pedagogical principles,
developed in her Cello Playing is Easy project, in the preparation and performance of Prelúdio da
Suíte Brasileira para Cello Solo by Dimitri Cervo. The study aims to test strategies that facilitate the
learning process of the piece, addressing its technical and interpretative challenges while proposing the
inclusion of Brazilian repertoire in the Suzuki Method. The methodology includes bibliographic and
documentary research on the Suite genre in Brazilian music, interviews with Tanya Carey and Dimitri
Cervo, and a comparative analysis between Carey's pedagogical principles and the preparation of the
piece. Additionally, the study incorporates Fábio Presgrave’s reflections on subjectivity and
interpretation in contemporary music. As a result, pedagogical activities combining technical and
interpretative approaches were developed, demonstrating the effectiveness of integrating these
principles to enrich cello training and expand the instrument’s pedagogical repertoire.
