PARTICIPATORY STUDY OF PERCUSSIONISTS' PERFORMANCE IN CEREMONIES OF MARACATU ESTRELA BRILHANTE DE IGARASSU.

The main focus of this work was to investigate the performance of percussionists from Maracatu Estrela Brilhante de Igarassu. The applied methodology involved a survey and systematization of bibliographic data, eight interviews were captured in audiovisual format with players connected to Estrela de Igarassu. Also interviewed were a bàbálórìsà, a bàbálórìsà Tarcísio Torres from Ilé Asè Ègbé Awo, three maracatu masters, Mestre Gilmar de Santana Batista from Maracatu Estrela Brilhante de Igarassu, Mestre Walter Ferreira de França and Mestre Jailson Chacon Viana from Maracatu Nação Porto Rico. Five percussionists from Maracatu Estrela Brilhante from Igarassu were also interviewed. The choice of the Bàbálórìsà as well as the masters of other nations was made with the intention of obtaining information about Maracatu from an external perspective. The choice of the five percussionists of Estrela Brilhante was due to their ability to play all the instruments of Baque do Estrela Brilhante de Igarassu. Videos were also recorded of each interviewee playing each instrument, playing box, ganzá, bass drum and gonguê accompanying the same music.
