SUMMARY:

Introduction: The increase in social inequalities, unemployment, poverty, and their consequences on psychological suffering have revealed the population's need for mental health services and the difficulties in meeting this demand. On the other hand, mental health care in primary care still lacks guidelines for good practices. This study presents the following research problem: what elements should comprise a guide to support mental health care to improve care practices in Primary Health Care in the municipality of Lajes? Objectives: to develop a guide to support mental health care in primary health care in the municipality of Lajes in Rio Grande do Norte; to conduct a scoping review that presents the main mental health care services developed in PHC; to construct a flowchart of mental health care for the municipality of Lajes. Method: This is a methodological development study, developed in three stages, namely: mapping the services and resources available for mental health care in the municipality of Lajes; constructing a scoping review with the objective of mapping the scientific evidence on mental health care in primary health care; and finally, constructing a guide for mental health care. Results: The scoping review allowed the construction of the following care strategies described in the guide, such as reception, individual and group care, clinical and psychiatric consultations, prescription and dispensing of medications, and the construction of Individual Therapeutic Projects. These also involve matrix support, home visits, active case finding, case discussions, and intersectoral articulation within the territory. These are complemented by collective health promotion activities and specialized care within the Psychosocial Care Network. Final considerations: It is hoped that this will contribute to care within the community, promoting low-tech practices that empower professionals and users of the Unified Health System, in accordance with the principles and guidelines of psychiatric reform and the anti-asylum movement.
