SUMMARY:

This study investigates the teaching of Geometry through the analysis of the historical
architecture of the municipality of Ceará-Mirim, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte,
Brazil, proposing an interdisciplinary approach that integrates Mathematics, History,
Visual Culture, and textual production. The research is grounded in the Theory of
Semiotic Representation Registers, developed by Raymond Duval, articulated with the
perspective of Ethnomathematics and Visual Culture. A didactic sequence was developed
with high school students, involving activities such as observation, photographic recording,
geometric modeling, and poetic textual production. The results indicate significant progress
in spatial visualization, in the coordination between different representation registers, and
in the meaningful understanding of geometric concepts. It is concluded that the use of local
architectural heritage constitutes a powerful pedagogical resource for teaching Geometry,
promoting contextualized, critical, and meaningful learning.
