SUMMARY:

This thesis explores the relevance of urban afforestation for the development of more resilient, healthy, and sustainable cities. It addresses biotic homogenization in the composition of urban trees and the problem of environmental segregation, manifested by the "luxury effect"; where the distribution of green infrastructure is uneven. These issues, often caused by a lack of planning and poor distribution of urban forests, harm both the human population and biodiversity, compromising ecological connectivity. In this context, the integration of landscape ecology into urban planning is proposed to mitigate habitat fragmentation and restore connectivity through the creation of ecological corridors, utilizing existing urban greenery. The
study aims to investigate how spatio-temporal and socioeconomic factors affect the diversity of trees in squares, streets, and avenues, and how the current landscape configuration influences the connectivity of the urban forest. It also suggests scenarios for creating ecological corridors that connect urban vegetation to forest fragments.
