Old mortar, lime, conservation, rehabilitation
The conservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings is of great relevance to society. These buildings reveal the history, architectural features and activities that supported local socioeconomic growth. In this context, the work aims to characterize the coating mortar of Casa Grande do Engenho Cruzeiro, located in the municipality of Ceará-Mirim / RN. For this, the work was carried out in two stages: In the first, an on-site visit, photographic record and collection of the mortar samples were made; in the second, the characterization of the mortars was carried out, with physical and chemical analyzes. Analyzing the data from the characterization tests, it was possible to verify that the studied mortars present agglomerate of calcitic origin and siliceous aggregate, in which the agglomerant / aggregate ratio is 1: 2 for samples AM-01 and AM-03, 1: 5 for AM-02 and 1: 3 for AM-04. With this information, it is possible and viable to carry out a project to rehabilitate the covering of the studied building.
