SUMMARY:

This dissertation presents an analysis of the Bahian economy and its recent deindustrialization process, an object that has been the subject of intense debate in recent years. It is based on the premise that the already prolonged process of deindustrialization of the Brazilian economy, due to the size of the country and its regional inequalities, does not present the same results in all regions and states of Brazil. The central objective of this dissertation is, when analyzing the structure of the Bahian economy, to verify whether it, like the Brazilian economy, has experienced a process of deindustrialization of its productive structure. To this end, evidence will be presented through indicators of the evolution of GDP and employment, to conclude with the incidence of the deindustrialization process in Bahia.
