AREA: Turismo
SUMMARY:

Tourism has emerged as a leading sector for socioeconomic growth on a global scale, fostering a demand for more sustainable practices, including ecotourism, geotourism, and community-based tourism. Within this framework, UNESCO Global Geoparks are distinguished as territories that integrate the conservation of geological heritage with education and sustainable tourism, prioritizing the development of local communities. Concurrently, the solidarity economy presents an alternative paradigm of economic organization, grounded in the principles of cooperation, self- management, and social inclusion. This model finds in geoparks a fertile environment for its advancement, effectively aligning income generation with the valorization of local culture and traditional knowledge. This research aims to analyze the contribution of the Seridó Geopark to the development of solidarity economy enterprises within the local tourism sector. It employs a descriptive-exploratory design, anchored in a systemic epistemology and a qualitative approach, seeking to address a scholarly gap in the intersection between tourism, the solidarity economy, and geoparks. The research universe comprises solidarity enterprises such as associations, cooperatives, informal groups, and exchange clubs, that are directly or indirectly linked to tourism in the Seridó Geopark territory, which encompasses six municipalities: Acari, Carnaúba dos Dantas, Cerro Corá, Currais Novos, Lagoa Nova, and Parelhas. Data will be collected through semi-structured interviews with local stakeholders and public officials, supplemented by documentary analysis and indirect observation during field visits. The collected data will be systematically organized and interpreted using content analysis, following the methodological procedures proposed by Bardin (2011). It is anticipated that this study will identify and map the solidarity economy enterprises (SEEs) connected to tourism within the Geopark, detailing their characteristics, operational areas, organizational structures, and the challenges they face. Furthermore, the research endeavors to reveal how the core tenets of the solidarity economy, cooperation, self-management, and solidarity are being effectively operationalized within the practices of these local tourism ventures.
