SUMMARY:

Decolonial theory has been at the epicenter of academic debates since the 1980s. Reflections on this theme have emerged as an approach to deconstructing colonial narratives, valuing local knowledge and traditions and fostering egalitarian relations between different groups. In recent years, discussions on decolonial studies have emerged as an object of debate in various areas of knowledge. In the field of tourism, Chambers and Buzinde (2015) were pioneers in decolonial theory applied to studies in the area. Since then, there has been an increase in academic production in this area. The aim of this research is to understand tourism and cultural heritage from a decolonial perspective in the Historic Center of Porto Seguro (Bahia - Brazil). This is a qualitative, exploratory study. Data will be collected through bibliographical and documentary research, observation and semi-structured interviews. The data will be analyzed and processed using Bardin's (2016) content analysis, which will be based on a dialogue with the theorists of decolonial thinking, associated with the analysis of the interviews with tourism managers and agents. It is hoped that the results will contribute to the debate on decolonial thinking and collaborate with the development of tourism management practices by local managers and agents, in order to promote new perspectives for the activity in the municipality.
