SUMMARY:

In recent years, there has been an increase in discussions about Community-Based Tourism (CBT) as a form of local development and a factor for social and economic growth. The alternative model of tourist activity is commonly observed in its practice and dissemination in rural contexts, but as a rule, it is understood that there is a perspective of framing TBC in contexts of urban areas that are socioeconomically disadvantaged, unequal and are on the margins of the process. of tourism. From this perspective, Community-Based Tourism in Urban Areas (TBCAU) is explored, which will potentially address a poor, disadvantaged and marginalized context. Furthermore, dealing with TBC requires discussing, reinforcing and following the premises and principles designated by the Ministry of Tourism in Brazil (MTUR). From this, the objective of the research is to analyze the limits and possibilities for community-based tourism in urban areas (TBCAU) in Mãe Luiza Neighborhood (Natal/RN), focusing on the premises proposed by MTUR. As soon as it becomes important to look into this topic as little is explored and academically problematizes TBC in city limits, and due to the current scenario of reach and visibility of community-based tourism. The methodology used is based on qualitative research and has an exploratory and descriptive nature, carrying out empirical research that includes bibliographical analysis, focus group meetings, documentary research and direct observation in its data collection. It is expected that the results will highlight the limits and possibilities of TBC in marginalized and socioeconomically disadvantaged urban areas and highlight the scope or otherwise of the premises proposed by MTUR.
