SUMMARY:

This work analyzes the current Macauan theater scene from a case study of the play Canto para Macau. Held by the
City of Macau, in Rio Grande do Norte, the show tells the story of the city is in its third edition. The assembly
reflects on its historical and cultural importance for the municipality, since it puts on stage its main popular
manifestations such as fandango, coco de roda, pastoril and carnival street blocks. To understand how these
manifestations are transformed into the scene, the work is based on a literature review about these popular
manifestations, analyzing what remains and what changes in the scene using as references Getúlio Moura (2003),
Aparício Fernandes (1984), Amaury de Medeiros Bezerra (2011) and Benito Barros (2001). With regard to a theory
for the Brazilian popular theater, uses the concept of theater-folia by Larissa Neves (2022).
