The present dissertation is guided by the question: what contributions does working with documentary collections in theater bring to theater teaching? To answer it, a didactic-pedagogical proposal is designed from the documentary sources that make up the collection of Teatro Alberto Maranhão (TAM), built in 1904, in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. In the articulation of this proposal, the importance of the memory and history of Brazilian theater is discussed, mainly of Potiguar theater, based on the theatrical collection of TAM; and the theater-education relationship in Brazil, with the aim of understanding the place of the history of theater in the teaching of Arts/Theatre at school. An analysis of the historical documents found in this collection during the years 1926-1937 is proposed, conceiving them as a pedagogical resource in the context of teaching theater history.
