Urban Maroon Ateliê Multicultural Elioenai Gomes: Afrocentricity, Black Poetics, and Black Scenic Pedagogy in the performance Auto dos Orixás.
Afrocentricity, Black Scenic Pedagogy, Black Poetics, Black Theatre.
This Afro-referenced, autoethnographic research investigates the formative processes I experienced in the context of the public performance-act Auto dos Orixás, an initiative of the Quilombo Urbano Ateliê Multicultural Elioenai Gomes, conceived and maintained by the multivisual artist Nai Gomes in João Pessoa (PB). By reconstructing my own artistic and social trajectory in this space, I reflect on the different artistic and cultural actions developed there from the perspective of Afrocentricity (Assante, 2016) and the concepts of quilombismo (Nascimento, 1980) and quilombamento (Nascimento, 2009). Next, I discuss the principles and procedures that guide the pedagogical and creative practices of the Auto dos Orixás in the editions held between 2016 and 2024. As a result of the investigation, I formulate the concept of Corpovivência (Body-living), deepening studies on Afrocentricity in art education, theater teaching, Education for Ethnic-Racial Relations, and poetic production of Black dramaturgy. I conclude that the Auto dos Orixás, through its modes of creation, collective organization, and transmission of knowledge, constitutes a powerful and innovative Black pedagogical mobilization (Petit, 2015) in the theatrical field, contributing to the strengthening of Afro-referenced practices and to filling an important academic gap.
