CAPITAL ACCUMULATION AND RELATIVE SURPLUS POPULATION: the case of the homeless population
Capital accumulation. Relative surplus population. Homeless population.
The research presented here aims to analyse the phenomenon of homeless people from the spectrum of relative surplus population, formulated by Karl Marx, in Capital. In this perspective, the present study will analyse the process of capital accumulation, the functional existence of a relative surplus population – also called industrial reserve army – and the particularities of the homeless population in Brazil. As specific objectives, it intends to: 1) apprehend the process of capitalist accumulation and the emergence of relative surplus population; 2) analyse working conditions and the labour power in Brazil; and 3) to analyse the origin of the homeless population and its relationship with the industrial reserve army. The research will be guided by the critical-dialectical method, through a mixed methods approach (quanti-qualitative) and carrying out a bibliographic survey and documental research. Considering fundamental categories such as totality, historicity, contradiction and mediation, we seek, for the purposes of the research, to apprehend and analyse the phenomenon studied, as well as its dynamics in reality.
