THE PROFESSIONAL EXERCISE OF THE SOCIAL WORKER IN EDUCATION: expansion of the occupational space and tendency to precarious work in student assistance

This research project approaches the discussion of social worker´s professional practice in educational system, specifically student’s assistance. The central problem´s research is to analyze his professional practice in the context of increasing occupational space in the Higher Educational Federal Institutes (IFES) and in the scenarios of social transformation, which affects the world of work and its workers. As paid employee from state institutions, social workers are not immune to precarious work. In that sense, the general objective of this work is to analyze the social worker´s professional practice in educational system, in face of the occupational space increasing, pointing out determinants and ways which deterioration work conditions express themselves in professional jobs, in student´s assistance and in the contemporaneous society context. The specific objectives are to analyze the determinants that boost the increase of occupational space in the area of education, that deteriorate professional work in the occupational space and to analyze objective and subjective conditions of professional practice. Besides, other specific objective is to identify ways that precarious work condition expresses itself in social worker jobs and its implications in requests from students, in professional competences and attributions. This research locus is social worker workplaces like the IFES, from Natal, Rio Grande do Norte´s County. These IFES include Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Main Campus) and Instituto Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (Campuses of Cidade Alta, Central and Zona Norte). About methodological approach, besides bibliographic and desk research, it will be used field research, which it will be conducted semi-structured interviews with Social Service professionals that work in these institutions.
