SUMMARY:

Cancer is a highly prevalent and incident disease worldwide, and its treatment, while essential, often exhibits significant toxicity, manifesting adverse effects such as cutaneous hyperpigmentation. To manage this adverse effect, depigmenting agents with antioxidant action and/or tyrosinase inhibition, such as coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and resveratrol (RSV), are frequently employed. However, these molecules have biopharmaceutical drawbacks including low aqueous solubility, low permeability, and chemical instability. In this context, the use of nanoemulsion systems presents a valuable strategy for improving formulations to overcome these issues. Thus, in the present work, nanoemulsions containing CoQ10 and RSV were developed using the phase inversion composition technique and were characterized in terms of diameter, polydispersity index, zeta potential, pH, infrared spectrum, transmission electron microscopy, and rheology. Characterization revealed nanometric-scale droplets, with sizes ranging between 110 and 250 nm, spherical, uniformly distributed (PDI < 0,3), and with anionic surface charge, where rheology indicated that the viscosity of the oil phase influences the system formation. Antioxidant profile studies were conducted and demonstrated the system's ability to maintain or enhance the antioxidant capacity of the active compounds in vitro. The safety of the formulations was also evaluated, with haemolytic potential and cell viability tests indicating the cytocompatibility of the systems. Thus, the systems were developed, characterized, and tested, showing satisfactory activity and safety.
