TITLE:
The gene STOX1 in the development of preeclampsia: a systematic review protocol
KEY WORDS:
Systematic review; Preeclampsia; STOX1.
PAGES: 52
BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Farmácia
SUMMARY:
Preeclampsia (PE) is a multifactorial and multisystemic syndrome, diagnosed by
the presence of arterial hypertension (systolic pressure ≥ 140 mmHg and diastolic
pressure ≥ 90 mmHg) in previously normotensive patients associated with
proteinuria (≥ 300 mg) and/or target organ damage. The etiology of this syndrome
has not yet been fully elucidated and there are several factors responsible for its
development, but genetic predisposition seems to have a greater impact when it
comes to familial PE. Several genes have already been associated with PE, such
as the STOX1 gene. However, these genetic studies have encountered several
difficulties, such as lack of reproducibility and studies with conflicting results.
Based on this, this systematic review aims to gather studies present in the various
scientific databases that relate the STOX1 gene to PE, in order to statistically
evaluate the relationship of this gene and its polymorphisms with the
development of PE. For this purpose, a systematic review protocol was prepared
in accordance with PRISMA standards and registered on the PROSPERO
platform (CRD42023465306). PubMed; Scopus; Embase; Web of Science;
Science Direct and gray literature: CAPES and Google Scholar will be used as
databases for researching studies without restrictions on publication date and
language. The clinical question developed to guide this systematic review was
based on the PICOS strategy, with observational studies (cross-sectional, case
control and cohort) that relate the STOX1 gene and its polymorphisms with the
development of PE being eligible. Studies will be screened, selected and
extracted following the eligibility criteria by 2 blinded reviewers and fully checked
by a third. The results will be summarized descriptively and presented in tables
and figures and if these available data are adequate, a meta-analysis will be
performed. The assessment of the methodological quality of the studies will be
done using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale.
