Production of space; urban space; social housing policy.

The production of social housing in the Brazilian context, implemented by the State through the creation of housing programs, triggered a series of urban expansion processes. According to some residents, such housing measures were only implemented in the city of Jardim de Piranhas, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the Brazilian Semi-Arid region, from the 1980s onwards. Thus, this work aims to analyze the production of urban space in Jardim de Piranhas contextualized by the implementation of public social housing policies from the 1980s onwards, considering the structures of housing and collective facilities implemented in the space, the housing deficit, and the possibilities for new social housing projects. To this end, we conducted bibliographic and documentary research, data systematization, and map construction on the production of urban space in Jardim de Piranhas within the context of housing policies. It is understood that public social housing policies contribute to the expansion of the city. However, the presence of formal and informal social housing is evident, located in deficient areas marked by the absence of urban policies, causing a disconnect in the realization of the right to the city and the right to housing for poor workers.
