SUMMARY:

Productive backyards are characterized as a social technology with dimensions intertwined in strengthening food sovereignty and the proper management of natural resources, representing a territory of agroecological practices with women as the main managers. In this respect, this study seeks to highlight how the actions of women in productive backyards can strengthen coexistence with the Semi-Arid region, focusing on the Quilombola Community of Macambira (RN). In this territory, peasant-quilombola women produce food and perpetuate essential dimensions of coexistence with the Semi-Arid region. Thus, the general objective is to analyze the contributions of productive backyards to strengthening coexistence with the Semi-Arid region in the Quilombola Community of Macambira, based on the work carried out by women. Specific objectives include: i) investigating the relationship between productive backyards and coexistence with the Semi-Arid region; ii) characterizing the productive backyards of the Quilombola Community of Macambira; iii) understanding the dimensions of the productive backyards of the Quilombola Community of Macambira. Methodologically, the research adopted a qualitative approach, guided by the Pedagogy of Territory. As methodological procedures, the first stage of the research consisted of a bibliographic survey and narrative literature review for theoretical grounding. In the second stage, preliminary visits and extension, training, and political advocacy actions were carried out with the community. In the following stage, fieldwork was conducted through discussion groups and semi structured interviews with the women. Finally, the final stage of the methodology was based on the systematization and analysis of the data. Regarding the results obtained, an association was made between productive backyards and the paradigm of living with the Semi-Arid region based on the work of women, understanding that they enhance coexistence through their knowledge and practices. Furthermore, the history of the Macambira community, the uses of productive backyards, identifying the importance of these territories, the elements present, the management, and the work of the women were discussed. It was also understood that the backyards have diverse dimensions, regarding both immaterial and material aspects. Furthermore, the results revealed how the peasant-quilombola women organize themselves through collective work, the solidarity economy, and agroecological transition, highlighting the importance of productive backyards enhanced by the implementation of social technologies that contribute to living with the semi-arid environment. Finally, based on the dimensions found and the context of environmental conflict in which the community is immersed, the study analyzed how the productive backyards contribute to women's resistance. From the results found, it is concluded that the productive backyards of Macambira are a great strengthener of coexistence, enhanced by social technologies, the solidarity economy, and agroecological transition. Beyond their productive and social dimensions, the backyards of peasant women from quilombola communities are an important instrument of resistance for these women, who promote new ways of resisting and existing in Macambira, energizing the community through the promotion and construction of new ways of life.
