Irrigation Policies, Development, Irrigated Perimeters, World Bank.
This research studies public irrigation policies in the Brazilian semi-arid region, taking the Cruzeta Irrigated Perimeter as the locus of these public policies in geographical space. We will highlight how they havesought to modernize agriculture and improve living conditions in the region, which faces specific climatic and socio-economic challenges. Despite significant investments and partnerships with the World Bank, many irrigation projects, including irrigated perimeters in Rio Grande do Norte, have faced problems such as poor water management and soil salinization, resulting in performance below expectations. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of one of these World Bank interventions in the Cruzeta-RN perimeter and to verify the possible promotion of improvements and the achievement of sustainable development.
