Information Management at PROGESP: A Case Study on the Use of Instagram for Communication between UFRN and Its Staff

The increasing development and access to information and communication technologies (ICTs) have driven the production and dissemination of information, elevating its importance for contemporary organizations and attracting the attention of managers, professionals, and researchers. In the context of public institutions, efficient information management is essential for providing services to society and for decision-making. This study, employing a qualitative approach, applied nature, and descriptive and exploratory objectives, used the case study method to investigate PROGESP/UFRN's communication on Instagram, seeking to identify opportunities for improvement in the management of these pages. The research identified and proposed guidelines for standardizing and strengthening this communication, analyzing data collected through semi-structured interviews with the managers of PROGESP's Instagram pages and with managers from the Dean's office, in addition to the systematic observation of other Universities Federal Instagram pages. Data analysis was performed using the Content Analysis method. The main results point to the importance of a more structured informational flow and clear guidelines for managing the pages, aiming to optimize communication with UFRN's staff. This study contributes practical guidelines for information and communication management on PROGESP's Instagram, as well as providing insights into the use of social media in public institutions.
