SUMMARY:

Technological development and the expansion of the information use have impacted organizational and individual informational practices. The information overload implied the need to develop individual skills for both information and knowledge management, as well as for the use of technological tools to support these processes. Within the organizational context, using digital information systems as tools to support information management is increasingly popular, and user’s satisfaction has been associated with these systems' quality. Therefore, what is observed is that informational behavior and user needs impact the process of searching and retrieving information in information systems. Once retrieved, keeping and controlling this information for future use will depend on the end users skills for managing personal information and personal knowledge, in addition to the available support tools in this process. Thus, the general objective of this study is to develop improment proposals for personal knowledge and information management of UFRN department secretaries. To achieve this objective, the following specific objectives were outlined: (i) To identify the existing literature on the subject of Personal Information and Knowledge Management; (ii) To describe how the secretaries perform their personal information and knowledge management; (iii) To propose improvement strategies for secretaries' personal knowledge and information management. It is expected to achieve these objectives through the literature review and field research. This is a descriptive and exploratory applied research with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Data collection will be carried out through bibliographic research and questionnaires application. The method of collected data analysis will be descriptive statistics and content analysis. Based on these analyses, we intent to comprehend the personal information and knowledge management of secretaries, and to develop improvement proposals and tools.
