SUMMARY:

The following empirical research proposal has as its object the Núcleo Temático da Seca e Semiárido do Rio Grande do Norte (NUT-Seca) of Universidade Federal de Rio Grande do Norte, including its collection and its relationships, researchers, and partners. We consider NUT-Seca needs to (re)assume, with a critical perspective, the central axis of a knowledge network –as a strategic mechanism for knowledge management– around the domain of drought and semi-arid to establish a conception of situated and solidary science. The objective of the research is to carry out a domain analysis of the semi-arid domain to support the proposal for the constitution of a knowledge network, defined here as a community of people who work formally or informally on a specific topic. For this, the research mobilizes a theoretical framework that has as its axes the social, situated, and contextual character of knowledge; a critical perspective on knowledge management and the importance of the territory to establish strategic analyzes and conceptual aspects of social networks and knowledge networks. As a methodological approach, Domain analysis is used, considering its emphasis on exploring the social contexts of production and communication of knowledge, in addition to its agents, documents and communication flows. Visualizations of the domain (science maps) will be constructed and interpreted, based on bibliometric methods and production and linkage indicators, as well as indicators and measures of Social Network Analysis. Domain analysis will be complemented by a critical epistemological analysis. Based on these results, it is expected to have subsidies to propose criteria and actions that allow the creation of a knowledge network that allows the establishment of academic partnerships and information products and services among the actors identified in the drought and semi-arid domains.
