Munitur: A Proactive Monitoring and Evaluation System for Distance Learning Activities in Virtual Learning Environments
Distance Education, Data Mining, Virtual Learning Environments, Multiagent System and Intelligent Systems.
Currently, Brazil is experiencing a very special moment in Distance Education (EaD), since many places and new courses are being opened in this type of education. In order to support the development of EaD, there is a need for systems that aid in the teaching and learning process, such as Virtual Learning Environments (AVAs). The interactions that students have with each other, with teachers and tutors, and with educational resources available in these settings are valuable pointers to the effectiveness of a learning experience. However, the management of learning processes in AVAs, with quality of interaction and accompaniment, aiming at the permanence and success of the students, demands more and more of the tutor. This fact is due to both the pedagogical model adopted and the need for tools to support the tutor in his or her follow-up activities. Against this background, this work seeks, through the use of educational data mining, to propose a new model to support AVA mentoring activities and to develop a multiagent architecture to support this model. The multi-agent architecture to be developed will be validated in a case study to be carried out in AVA Moodle of the Secretariat of Distance Education (SEDIS) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN).
