Learning Objects with Educational Robotics as a Strategy for Awareness and Prevention Against Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation
Touch Traffic Light, Educational Robotics, Child Sexual Awareness, Orange May
This research investigates the effectiveness of educational robotics as a playful and interactive strategy in raising awareness and preventing child sexual abuse. According to data from the 2025 Brazilian Yearbook of Public Security, the number of rape cases involving children up to 13 years old was 51,677 victims. Considering these alarming rates of sexual violence against children and adolescents in Brazil and the need for schools to act as spaces for dialogue, this research proposes expanding the "Orange May" campaign through the "Touch Traffic Light" activity using Educational Robotics. The objective is to increase interactivity and awareness among children about the prevention of child sexual abuse through the use of a mixed methodology, combining quantitative and qualitative analysis. The research will be applied in a municipal school in Natal/RN with 40 elementary school students. The physical prototype maintains the same idea as the analog Touch Traffic Light activity already being used by the campaign, however, with the use of educational robotics elements, incorporating elements such as microcontrollers, LEDs, and sensors, to react to the children's touch. The system is basically composed of two automaton characters, a boy and a girl, whose body parts are classified as permitted, requiring attention, or prohibited, associated with the colors of the traffic light. During the practical activity, when touching a certain region of the characters, sensors activate LEDs corresponding to the classification of the area in question. In addition to the characters integrated with sensors and LEDs, the system has a traffic light that uses the colors red, yellow, and green to represent, respectively, prohibited touches, situations requiring attention, and permitted touches, reinforcing bodily limits in a playful and educational way. The aim is to validate the "Touch Traffic Light" tool as a didactic resource for Educational Robotics applied to social issues, providing an empirical basis for improving practices and future research focusing on social and emotional values.
