SUMMARY:

This research sought to structure and apply a proposal for the methodological organization of Sport Orientation through a didactic unit for teaching Physical Education in High School, which serves as guidance for teachers and is compatible with the reality of public schools. The study was carried out in the city of Monte Alegre/RN, at the Professor Gaspar State School, through a study referenced from the methodological perspective of the participant type, in a qualitative approach. We started by investigating a real context experienced at this school, with a group of 39 students from a 2nd year afternoon class. As research instruments we used the teacher's field diary, recording the facts observed through participant observation; planning Sports Orientation pedagogical practices with the execution of lesson plans; and the application of a questionnaire at the end of the teaching unit. After the initial procedures with the necessary authorizations and clarifications, we continued building support references for subsequent data analysis. As a result of our study, we were able to observe good student involvement in the proposed activities, and that the teaching pedagogical strategies used in classes were assertive and coherent with the structural and material reality of the school investigated. Furthermore, the materials created and adapted to the practice of sports orientation, provided the opportunity for students to explore a new bodily experience among the diverse ranges that the universe of body movement culture can offer. In theory, the teaching unit proved to be effective given the reality of the lack of adequate materials/space, and presents itself as a means of guidance for future teachers who wish to work on this sport in their classes. We also found that a significant part of the class classified as interesting the way in which the knowledge pertaining to Orienteering Sports was transmitted, and were able to associate different learning and benefits that Orienteering Sports can provide for their lives, recognizing the value of this sport. Therefore, we conclude that the students understood Adventure Body Practices as an integral part of the body culture of movement, with Sports Orientation as a new possibility; also decentralize the teaching of Physical Education, which commonly favors more traditional sports, opening up a new possibility of content for Physical Education teachers, based on new and adaptable content, and as agreed in this study, with assertive didactic-pedagogical strategies and coherent with the structural and material reality of a public school.
