SUMMARY:

We live in a technological/media moment where we are bombarded daily by images. These come to us from various vehicles causing in us perceptions that differ from individual to individual. The trivialization and advancement of manipulation techniques also allow completely distorted images to be misinterpreted as a standard offered by the media, causing discomfort with the (self)image, developing issues of denial of this. Social networks are “blank canvases” on which you can “paint” who you want to be and how you want to be perceived, through photographs; almost a diary of contemporary times, where this persona “I” is presented. A critical reflection on how this imagery is received and perceived is necessary. Are we subjects who know, who make a good reading of the images in the world around us? Thus, the main objective of this study is to develop critical thinking about the role of media images, their functions and impacts on our lives, highlighting the need for visual literacy and image reading teaching. This analysis will start from a hybrid methodology based on case study action research and Ana Mae Barbosa's triangular approach, directing an investigative base based on the participatory predicate, where those involved can develop dialogues and critical analyzes based on imagery perception ( photography), which seeks to elucidate the question: Is it possible to transform our perception of beauty and develop a poetic gaze that perceives beauty in the simple, in the ordinary?
