SUMMARY:

This article investigates a theatrical educational practice in the classroom
in interface with cordel literature, carried out at Escola Cívica Militar João XXIII, Natal/RN in the
9th grade classes, morning shift of elementary school II. The School is located at Rua dos
Pajeús, 1875, on the east side of Natal, in the old and commercial district of the city of Natal. It
has a good physical structure, most students come from Alecrim and the others from all
neighborhoods of Natal, including neighboring municipalities, such as: Extremoz, São Gonçalo
do Amarante. Families are low-income. Theater and cordel literature are artistic themes arising
from a specific creative and cultural context. The hypothesis raised is that the use of theater
and string in the classroom, in addition to being dynamic teaching tools, can contribute to the
teaching and learning process, as they enable reading practices with more constancy, in
addition to problematizing reality. sociocultural. O general objective: To analyze a 9th grade
classroom experience using theater, in an interdisciplinary perspective with cordel literature,
in order to promote the practice of reading and knowledge acquisition as an instrument that
triggers expressiveness. Thus, it is understood that the articulation of theater and the reading
of string become a stimulus to creativity, since, currently, there are several transformations
with regard to teaching practice. In this way, this articulation between theater and cordel is
envisioned as being an education mechanism and, also, a way of valuing culture, considering
that one should teach what is around the school because, without this relationship, one
cannot builds knowledge. The methodological proposal lies within the scope of qualitative
research specifically, an experience report, from the literary analysis of the cordel leaflets, in
order to value the cordel literature by inserting it as a means of teaching theater in school. The
theoretical foundation in contributions to theater and cordel, we used Koudela (1998), Márcia
Abreu(1999), Freire(1989), Ayola (2003), Boal (211), Ana Mae (2003). Faced with this school
intervention, theater and cordel literature must occupy a space in the school environment,
with specificities in popular artistic production, to awaken and promote skills of collective
experience of knowledge construction, which can help the teaching and learning of
morphology of words in the formation of future readers.
