THE COLOR OF THE EBONY: Art and valorization of Afro-Brazilian aesthetics at school
identity, racism, aesthetics
This text promotes some reflections aligned with
the debate around the insertion of history in Afro-
Brazilian culture as prescribed in Law 10.639/03,
which guide the development of pedagogical and
didactic actions through the discipline of Art in a
school context, that of the State Center for
Professional Education Hélio Xavier de
Vasconcelos, located in the city of Extremoz - RN,
whose objective is to promote a fight against
racism in the school space, at the same time that it
has inspired research problems. Such actions have
been carried out in a school context marked by an
ethnic Afro-descendant majority, a majority who
does not see this identity positively, nor can
envision the practice and perpetuation of structural
racism in their daily lives. It is in this context that
we have promoted didactic activities that seek to
involve students in debates regarding the
construction of social identities, multiculturalism,
aesthetics, subjectivities, ethnic and cultural
diversity, and racism, focusing on the promotion
and valorization of blackness and Afro-descendant
identities by using visual arts and its languages as
instruments to represent and to value black
aesthetics in the school environment.
