SUMMARY:

The present thesis constitutes a cartography of friendship in the field of drugs (proscribed and/or
prescribed) among university youth. It interrogates the socially pervasive conception of friendship as
a "risk factor" and the friendships with or among individuals who use drugs as potentially dangerous
relationships—an understanding socially endorsed by the prohibitionist, colonialist, reductionist,
and segregational logic. In this trajectory, we focus on friendship experiences among individuals who
use multiple drugs, revealing different modulations of friendship and sociability, announcing their
ethical, aesthetic, and political potency for the production of life and existence through the creation

of invisible networks of friendships that engage with the ethical perspective of harm reduction, self-
care production, and knowledge that amplifies openness to differences and to life in its multiple

forms of existence and expressiveness. Through a cartographic research-intervention, group devices
and cartographic interviews were conducted, and, as a means of analysis, we used logbooks
(individual and collective), written narratives, and aesthetic materials produced in collective
encounters. We weave the analyses through three threads: (I) the impacts of coloniality and
prohibitionism on friendships in the drug field and their interweaving in the university context; (II)
the production of life in the invisible and micropolitical webs of friendship; and (III) the creation of
autonomous care zones among university students. Finally, the analyses allow us to approach the

ethical-political-aesthetic dimension of friendship in the drug field, announcing alternative
perspectives, experiences, and possibilities that break with the hegemonic conception of friendship
as a "risk factor" to affirm it as a producer of life and other possible worlds.
