SUMMARY:

Telework is a distance work modality, mediated by the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), which has been gaining space in the Brazilian work context and in the world. The social isolation measures necessary to contain the new coronavirus pandemic have boosted even more the adhesion to this modality, which has been expanding since the 90s. Multiple fields of knowledge are dedicated to the study of telework, whose diversity of configurations and arrangements make the task of investigating it more complex. Although advances have been made towards the identification of advantages and disadvantages of the modality, there are still many questions that help to understand the materiality of the modality and its subjective repercussions on teleworkers, especially when thinking about telework as a phenomenon that emerges and expands in neoliberalism. In this sense, the objective of this work is to analyze how the discourses and practices of construction of a neoliberal subject are refracted in the experience of teleworkers. For this, we adopted as a research perspective the cultural-historical psychology, seeking to understand in the singular experience of the participants, the dialectics of constitution of the telework phenomenon in the particular and universal conditions in which they are inserted. As a methodological approach, we conducted a case study of two sectors of a public institution of the judiciary, with participant observation, semi-structured and in-depth interviews with 14 civil servants from these two sectors. The analysis of the interviews followed the nucleus of meaning methodology, allowing us to explore the different meanings associated with telecommuting. A first core of meaning referred to the paradigmatic changes of the types of control in telework and its refractions.
