SUMMARY:

It is known that intelligence is supported by a wide neuronal network in which frontal and parietal areas play a primary role and, when it comes to the functioning of individuals with high intellectual potential, studies highlight a functioning marked by global activation and less segregation of the cortex. Therefore, several authors problematize the impact of some specific cognitive processes in determining intelligent behavior, among which the executive functions (EF) and creativity stand out. In general, the literature on the relationship between intelligence and FE does not have a consensus. Regarding the relationship between these phenomena in the HS population, the literature highlights the efficient and early use of FE in children with high intellectual potential, especially the ability to analyze information in order to favor neuronal plasticity. However, other studies point out that working memory is the only variable of FE that expresses strong correlation with intellectual capacity in children and adolescents with high intellectual potential. Similarly, the relationship between intelligence and creativity is known and suggests the sharing of common cognitive aspects; however, it is still a controversial topic in the field of psychology and cognitive processes. The present study intends to continue the research already conducted, more specifically, the recent study developed by Felinto (2018), whose objective was to investigate the relationships between intelligence, executive functions, figural creativity characteristics in young people with high intellectual potential. Felinto's (2018) Study highlighted the relationship between intelligence and operational memory and identified the overlap of creativity and intelligence in the adolescent and young adult population. That said, the aim of this study is to analyze in children and adolescents the relationships between high intellectual potential, FE and creativity. The research was subdivided into three studies: 1) "Paradoxical" relations between High Abilities/Super ability and Dyslexia; 2) The predictive value of high intellectual potential in executive functions and figural creativity in children; 3) Characteristics of the relations in measures of verbal operational memory and creativity in two groups with definitively above average intelligence in distinct developmental stages. 44 children and adolescents, aged 7 to 17 years. From the studies outlined in this thesis project, the participants will be distributed in different ways, in order to meet the objectives proposed for each study. The participants were evaluated for intelligence, executive functions, and creativity using a battery of neuropsychological instruments, and then descriptive and inferential analyses were implemented with the purpose of helping to reach the objectives of the proposed studies. In Study 1, an asynchronous cognitive profile was found in children with high intellectual potential and dyslexia; in Study 2, there were low magnitude correlations between intelligence and executive functions, but moderate correlations in some factors of creativity in children with high intellectual potential. In Study 3, we intend to compare the performance of groups with high intellectual potential in tests of operational memory and creativity according to the developmental stage (children and adolescents). In view of this, we highlight the peculiar characteristics of this mode of functioning in high intellectual potential, which would provide subsidies for further evaluation and effective interventional strategies in all contexts where children and adolescents with high intellectual potential are inserted.
