Analysis of the Work Activity of the Mobile Emergency Care Service
SAMU; Attention to urgencies; Worker's Health; Working conditions;
This project is divided into three parts to better study and understand the work of the Mobile
Emergency Care Service (SAMU). The first part discusses the historical aspects of mobile Pre-
Hospital Care (PHC) in Brazil. The second part refers to the implementation of the National
Emergency Care Policy (PNAU) and, in follow-up, the officialization of the SAMU, are presented in
the second part. The third part results from a systematic literature review (PROSPERO:
CRD42019125250), which aimed to characterize the scientific production on the work of the Brazilian
SAMU. The databases consulted at the first moment were SciELO, PePSIC and the CAPES Journal.
Then, the VHL was consulted, which brings together the Bases of BDENF; IBECS; Index-Psi;
LILACS and MEDLINE. The descriptors used were "SAMU";, "Emergency Medical Services" and "Work". The sample of this review consisted of a corpus of 49 articles, which went through the joanna briggs instituti (JBI) quality evaluation process. The scientific production analyzed is characterized by
verifying the relationship between health and work of the SAMU. Most studies occurred in the
northeast and southeast, in 2020 and in nursing journals. These are descriptive and/or exploratory
studies that took nursing professionals as a sample, in which they investigated occupational stress
through the application of questionnaires. In the thematic synthesis of similarity, four categories
emerged that explore the work of the nursing team, the work relationships of the SAMU, the working
conditions and risks of illness, and the intervention methods. It is concluded that SAMU workers
constantly face a lack of materials and insufficient number of ambulances, which compromises the
quality of the service. Moreover, there does not seem to be enough articulation between the SAMU
and other public health establishments, preventing the effectiveness of emergency care policies.
