SUMMARY:

Psychology, as a science and profession, has been conducting a process of internalization in recent decades in our country. With an elitist and urban origin centered in large cities and being questioned in practical and ethical aspects, psychology has been occupying spaces in small and medium cities, far from large metropolises, motivated by both professional performance in social policies, especially in the Unified Health System (SUS) and Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS) as for the opening of university courses in psychology in these cities. Considering this process of migration of professionals to small cities, this research intends to study the insertion of psychologists in public health policies, more specifically in the Family Health Support Centers (NASF), in rural contexts in the Mato Grande region. We understand rural not as a geographical space or negative conceptualization of what is residual in relation to the urban, but as a category of thought that crosses the geographical ambits and enters the ambit of the symbolic. This project originated in the experiences of the researcher at the NASF of a small city in Rio Grande do Norte and the worries when faced repeatedly with the understanding of other health professionals regarding the rural as a distant place, without development, and with poor conditions to work. These experiences generated several questions about how this understanding about rural ends up influencing professional practices. Regarding its importance, we believe that this research is justified in the face of the construction of a psychological knowledge, both theoretical and practical, has been observed a lack of participation of psychology in discussions about subjectivation modes, psychosocial processes and identity in rural contexts. This research aims to analyze the insertion and modes of action of psychologists in NASF's in rural contexts in the region of Mato Grande. To this end, it seeks to identify the modes of action and the main practices of psychologists in these contexts, analyze the meanings regarding rurality and its implications in daily practice, and understand the limits, challenges and perspectives of this practice. The epistemological basis chosen to contact the object of study was that of social constructionism, a movement that seeks to focus on the processes by which people describe, explain or account for the world in which they are inserted. Data production is taking place through semi-structured interviews, recorded and later transcribed, addressing five areas of discussion: rural meanings, actions in psychology at the NASF, vocational training and professional history, performance challenges, and relationships and working conditions. For data analysis the dialogical map is being used after the use of the sequential and integral transcription method. We hope as a result of this research contribute to the construction of knowledge about the role of psychologists in rural contexts, as well as somehow extrapolate the ambit of the university and serve as a reflection tool for professionals, who in contact with the most diverse ruralities can seek a more adequate performance to the modes of subjectivation and identity processes of these contexts.
