RESUMO:

In the last years, internationalization has been receiving more attention in Brazilian science, and,
specifically, in Brazilian psychology, being the target of debate and specific policies. These
developments are looking to, among other things, qualify the increasing scientific production, and
establish a new standard of international insertion for the country, by internationalizing science itself
and strengthening scientific and technological cooperation. However, though it is a current theme,
there is no consensus as to how to define internationalization, and so it is possible to observe distinct
visions and actions concerning this process, which then bear consequences over the production of
knowledge. Thus, it becomes indispensable to think critically over this phenomenon, due to its

implications on and the possibilities it offers to the development of Brazilian science and Psychology.
For this area, this need acquires bigger importance, given the increase in its scientific production
within international databases, as well as its history of alignment to the science produced in central
countries and its contribution to the status quo. That considered, this work aims to analyze the
internationalization in Brazilian psychology graduate programs. In order to do that, the investigation
strategy is made up of two documental researches. The first refers to the analysis of the reflections and
guidelines adopted by the Psychology scientific community regarding its process of
internationalization, using documents from events related to that field and the National Graduate
Guidelines (Planos Nacionais de Pós-Graduação). The second part, then, is dedicated to the
investigation on how this materializes in graduate programs in the field with scores of six or seven,
analyzing their scientific papers. This way, we expect to discuss the possibilities and the restrictions
which are imposed, by internationalization put into practice, on the field and the production of
knowledge, which, ultimately, go the opposite way of domination and inequality in science and in
society.
