USING THE SPORT IN STATISTICS TEACHING: THE PRACTICAL CASE OF SOCCER
Statistics, Soccer, Comparison, Excel.
This work aims to teach statistics and present it as a comparison tool, using Microsoft
Excel, in the context of football. The work will also serve to satisfy the curiosity
of those who like the sport, as it will show comparisons between Brazilian Soccer
Championships of the A series over the years, through graphics and measurements of
position and variation. These results can be seen as average predictions and estimates
of what happens in the championships, and can be used to set goals and objectives for
the teams. The dissertation will also show how statistics is involved in this context,
showing patterns in the occurrences in championships, with a theoretical basis, using
definitions, theorems, tables, graphs, measures of central tendency, dispersion and
how they can be used. One of the goals is also to make students, guided by the
Professor, work on the idea of data collection, analysis and presentation, seeking to
make statistical comparisons within a similar situation, such as in another sport. As a
tool for the development of the work we will have Microsoft Excel, a software known
by many people, easy to use and access, which helps in the creation of tables, graphs
and calculation of measures.
