Exploration of descriptive measures in IBGE's digital platform from the perspective of Statistical Education
Statistics in Basic Education, Statistics Education, Dispersion measures, IBGE
Statistics is present in several news transmitted by the most diverse media of communication.
Whether via TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, or social networks, information gains strength
with the support of this area and can influence, manipulate or support the decisions that a
society needs to make in any situation. In Brazil, Statistics teaching in Basic Education was
reinforced when it was formally inserted, already in the 90s, in official documents that brought
new guidelines, which occurred with the publication of the PCN’s. With this insertion,
difficulties arise teaching this subject and, therefore, the needs to study and reflect about the
teaching and learning processes in Statistics culminating in the educational field activity
entitled Statistical Education. This work aims to discuss the Statistics and Statistical Education
in Basic Education making a connection of this content with three aspects researched in this
field - Literacy, the Thought and Statistical Reasoning. In that sense, as a result of this research,
an educational product was developed, consisting of: an orientation manual and a sequence of
activities. The manual is intended for teachers of Basic Education, in order to explore the
virtual environment of the IBGE platform regarding to data collection and the study of
statistics considering the three aspects already mentioned. The sequence of activities was
designed for an application with students of Basic Education, in research and data collection
actions, which enhance the understanding of central tendency and dispersion measures to
sum up data from the collected data, as well as actions to interpret summary measures,
through the IBGE platform.
